On June 20, 2007, PSA hosted a luncheon on Capitol Hill to announce its statement on Energy Security and Climate Change. The statement, unveiled by PSA Advisory Board members former
Senator Gary Hart and former National Security Advisor Robert (Bud) McFarlane, called for “dramatic bipartisan
action” to address the United States’
dangerous dependency on oil. Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) and Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD) joined PSA to support our call for sensible policies to reduce US dependence on foreign oil and combat the negative impact of climate change.
Signatories
of the PSA statement included, among others, three former Senators, a former Congressman, a former
Secretary of State, two former Ambassadors, and two former National Security
Advisors.
In a nationwide press release on the morning of the event, PSA Advisory Board co-chairman and former Congressman Lee Hamilton (D-IN), commented, “America’s
dependence on foreign oil is a vital national security concern. It’s time that Democrats and Republicans
stand together to implement practical solutions that decrease our dependency on
oil.”
