Partnership for a Secure America (PSA) is a nonprofit founded by former U.S. Representative Lee Hamilton and U.S. Senator Warren Rudman to advance bipartisanship on today’s critical national security and foreign policy challenges. Leveraging the leadership of its distinguished Advisory Board, PSA has unique credibility and access to forge common ground and fashion thoughtful, fact-based policy that promotes America’s national interests. A 'Safe Space' at the Top
Drawing on the voice and imprimatur of our distinguished Advisory Board, PSA works to build consensus among high-level former Democratic and Republican officials on key national security and foreign policy issues. By doing so, PSA creates a ‘Safe Space’ for current officials from both sides of the aisle to come together and discuss these issues, paving the way for meaningful bipartisan coordination and cooperation.
Changing the Culture
Over the past two decades, destructive partisanship has invaded every level of the policymaking process in Washington, threatening our nation’s ability to respond to critical national security and foreign policy challenges. Through our work, PSA addresses the underlying structural issues that impede successful bipartisan policymaking. We help build bipartisan relationships at all levels of the policy process, from young Congressional Staffers to top leaders, bridging partisan divides and creating a channel for communication.
PSA uses several approaches to promote better foreign policy through bipartisanship.
PSA’s policy statements signed by bipartisan groups of influential policy leaders are pivotal in advancing U.S. government policies, and have garnered coverage by leading newspapers around the country. Statements by the Partnership for a Secure America are endorsed only by those identified as signatories and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the entire membership of the Advisory Board.
PSA’s programs engage the broader Washington policy community in a series of educational, training, and networking opportunities designed to address the underlying breakdown of our national discourse. The Congressional Fellowship Program is specifically designed for Congressional staff to foster lifelong bipartisan action that is in America’s best interest.
PSA’s policy outreach catalyzes dialogue at the national, state and local levels to inform the policy debate.
