New START: Its Impact, Its Future

On Monday, November 22, a group of three experts discussed the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty at a joint PSA-Hudson event. While Presidents Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev signed the follow-on New START treaty this past April, it has yet to be ratified by the Senate, raising serious questions about the treaty’s future. The panelists discussed the impact the treaty has on American national security, the likelihood that New START will be ratified, and the effect that ratification or non-ratification would have on the broader U.S.-Russian relationship.
