About PSA

Our Mission

The Partnership for a Secure America (PSA) is dedicated to recreating the bipartisan center in American national security and foreign policy. Founded in 2005 by Sen. Warren Rudman (R-NH) and Rep. Lee Hamilton (D-IN), PSA works to bring top Democrats and Republicans together to seek common ground on key policy issues. PSA also raises public awareness of and support for bipartisanship in political discourse. See more on PSA's mission

Our Approach

A 'Safe Space' at the Top

Drawing on the voice and imprimatur of our distinguished Advisory Board, PSA works to build consensus among high-level former Democratic and Republican officials on key national security and foreign policy issues. By doing so, PSA creates a ‘Safe Space’ for current officials from both sides of the aisle to come together and discuss these issues, paving the way for meaningful bipartisan coordination and cooperation.

Changing the Culture

Over the past two decades, destructive partisanship has invaded every level of the policymaking process in Washington, threatening our nation’s ability to respond to critical national security and foreign policy challenges. Through our work, PSA addresses the underlying structural issues that impede successful bipartisan policymaking. We help build bipartisan relationships at all levels of the policy process, from young Congressional Staffers to top leaders, bridging partisan divides and creating a channel for communication.

Our Tools

PSA uses several approaches to promote better foreign policy through bipartisanship.

Statements

PSA regularly chooses critical issues at the forefront of national security and foreign policy to address in high-level bipartisan statements. These statements, signed by top national leaders from both sides of the aisle, help create the bipartisan ‘safe space’ for building consensus among Democrats and Republicans.

Events

PSA hosts events and panel discussions both in Washington and outside the beltway. These events, which feature high-level bipartisan speakers, work to promote intelligent, politically diverse policy discussions.

Congressional Fellowship Program

PSA’s Congressional Fellowship Program provides young Congressional staffers with the skills and relationships necessary to foster true bipartisan understanding and cooperation on Capitol Hill. Over the course of the program, staffers have the opportunity to build their professional skill set, hold substantive discussions with high-ranking officials, and form strong personal relationships with counterparts from both the House and Senate.

Blog

The PSA blog, Across the Aisle, provides analysis and commentary on top foreign policy issues. With contributors from a variety of backgrounds, Across the Aisle is a balanced look at American foreign policy today.
