OFF-THE-RECORD WITH FRANCES TOWNSEND
On January 24th – The Partnership for a Secure America held an off-the-record dinner for alumni of the Congressional Partnership Program with former Homeland Security Advisor, Frances Townsend. Ms. Townsend discussed today’s pressing foreign policy and national security challenges.
This was a closed event for alumni of the Congressional Partnership Program.
This event was made possible by the generous support of Intel, Venable LLP, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Ms. Townsend delivered remarks focused on some of the most complex foreign policy and national security challenges facing the nation today, including cybersecurity and entanglement in the ongoing Yemeni Civil War. Ms. Townsend described in detail the potential effects of a cyberattack on the United States:
“A cyberattack on our critical infrastructure would look very much like the Northeast blackout we saw 10 years ago. You might see the lights go out in a particular city in a rolling blackout. You might see the air traffic control system in the Northeast corridor – the busiest in the country – go down.”
